International Studies Experience Sharing

安雅倫 Alison [Erasmus-Bulgaria ]

I am Ariunzaya Amgalanbaatar from Mongolia, a fourth year student in ITH department of I-Shou University. In February, 2019, I had a privilege to take part in Erasmus exchange programme at “D. A Tsenov Academy of Economics” University in Svishtov for a semester, a small town in northern Bulgaria that borders Romania right across the Danube river. Honestly, no words can describe all the feelings, emotions and thoughts that Erasmus experience brought to me. I have not only acquired a great knowledge provided by the University, but also opportunities to learn about people who come from diverse cultures and to explore so many beautiful places across the country. Regarding my academic experience, I appreciated courses and classes being interactive, with opportunities to receive open lectures, listening to highly renowned guest professors from different part of Europe on a weekly basis, as well as to learn some local language. It was something you can only get in a very few universities. Lastly, I can certainly say that this experience was an invaluable contribution to my self-development both in education and everyday life and even more than that, it has given me things that cannot be bought with money like memories, friendship and a new family.

劉庭妤 Chloe [Australia & HK]

I was fortunate to receive offers from University of the Sunshine Coast and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to study as an exchange student for one semester. My experience in both Australia and Hong Kong were amazing, and I really learned a lot from adapting to different cultures I have had many opportunities to make friends with passionate people from all over the world. The lessons offered by the students were very comprehensive and I enjoyed their effective learning environment which in retrospect, I feel these precious experiences were great opportunities to enrich myself and broaden My horizons—not only helping me to step out of my comfort zone but also to think critically. I appreciate my ability to examine and improve myself on a regular basis.I really appreciate having this remarkable opportunity to have studied abroad and this valuable experience has definitely became one of the most important milestone in my life.

Kristianstad University, Sweden(1 Year Exchange)

Going to a foreign country to do an exchange is like getting a new golden opportunity to know much more about yourself at the same time getting to know a lot of amazing people from different cultural backgrounds and different countries. When talking to them, you get many Interesting Information you may never learn from the textbooks, and more importantly, you really can beef up on strengthening your communication skills. You will find that the time passes extremely fast during the year of being an exchange student because every day you have something different to Do. Most people are scared to jump out of their comfort zone, but for me, personally, I really enjoyed Every minute, and every second that I spent there. I also hope other students Can get the opportunity to travel and broaden their horizon ,To experience different types of cultures which are not in Asia and learn what it is to be truly independent.

Nottingham Trent University, UK 英國諾丁漢特倫特大學 (1 Year Exchange)

It was a really incredible experience to exchange in the UK. Everything were a brand new experience and everything that happened there made me stronger. It is rare chance to study with local British students, people there are so nice and many interesting things were happening around me. However, their way of education is quite different from Taiwan, there in the UK, they are more focused on students' self-study, critical thinking and academic skills. It took some time to get used to it, but after, I found different ways to think and now I have the ability to do the research from journal articles and books by myself. Not only their social life is also extremely different from my thoughts. They are as gentle as people saying but they still are very relax with friends. I could never imagine that I will have so many friends from UK and other countries. Coming to exchange, for me, have been not only for learning English and culture but also for growing up in a totally different environment you have never had, no matter physically or mentally, especially. I really appreciate having this chance to get this unforgettable experience and for sure it was one of the most important part of my life.

李宇珍 Jane [US]

I was studying at University of Incarnate Word for one semester. This experience is unforgettable, and it has been one part of my mind. This is the first time I go abroad and study abroad, one of my dream finally come true! It taught me many things, for example, it trained me to be more independent, and be active to try everything. During that semester, I found some differences comparing to Taiwan. For example, the way of teaching is more active. At UIW, teachers prefer to hold group activities or some missions to give some points. They also ask students to present their ideas in class. Thus, the acknowledge was put into practice, you are not just learning from books ONLY. This way lets me learn faster and also improved my English skills. Also, there are many fun classes, such as ballet class, photography class, dancing class, and so on. You can choose whatever you want. After this semester, I experienced different culture, new environment, new friends, and new , and so on. I am really appreciate that I had a chance to be there. I made many good friends and got experience there. In the beginning, I was really worried and afraid that I cannot do well. However, this experience told me: If you have something that you want to do, then just do it. You live only once. You will never know how great it could be!

This winter vacation I applied for the chance to practice one of my dream - Global Volunteer, I chose to participate Speak Up project organized by AIESEC in University Putra Malaysia. The purpose of this project is to give confidence to those children who don't have enough resource and courage, train them to speak up in English. (International language) I have learned and experienced different cultures, religion, environment, and worked with other enthusiastic global volunteers from all over the world. The teamwork within our project was getting better and better, as a team leader I tried to communicate with my members and discussed the best decision, we started with limited information and ideas but we tried our best to think out the teaching plan, interesting and useful for them. We saw how hard they were studying and the eagerness for learning, the improvement was greater than expectation, and it made me believe that everything is possible as long as you start doing! Moreover, the relationship between our team and the students were closely bounded together, because we were both appreciated the precious opportunity to meet up and learn from each others. I felt shocked and touched especially the hard-working spirit and never complain no matter how difficult, "People always ignore what they have had, they don't cherish what they have got."

I really encourage if you have a little time and money, it is definitely a great journey to fulfill your personal skills, knowledge, leadership and life experience.

Taylor's University Study Trip (2017)

It was a two weeks program for ITH student to study out of I-Shou, experience and learn in a new environment at Taylor's University, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

We had lesson about Room Reservation under Personal Account & Amendment of reservation class by learning The Opera System; Food and Beverage Operations, with knowing many different names for different use and size Knife Fork and Spoon, also different plate and Glassware which use in the Bar. I had a lot of fun in the Napkin Folding part, there are so many ways that we can present the Napkin to our customers and the lecturer gave us the freedom to search our own folding method. I think learning how to do the Flambé was a lot of fun. Flambé is a French dessert that’s needed a lot of technic, because it is a dish that cooks in front of the customers and the time control of the cooking is really important.

Apart from the learning part, the most exciting part was the “Food” in Malaysia. I love the culture that has different people staying in the same place but still keeping each other’s culture in a good way. India, Chinese, Malay and a lot of others types of food, making a good mixture of Malaysia culture.

I learnt many new skills and techniques from this study trip in Taylor’s University, it worth a lot in such a short period of time for just 2-week, and I will remember this for a long period time, because I have had much fun and learning things from hare. At last, I would strongly recommend to keep on planning this kind of study trip to other country university, experience the culture also learn what are the ways of doing things in their country.
